Arbutus L. Metcalfe, 82, of Mercersburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
Born July 26, 1937 in Fairplay Maryland, she was a daughter of the late JF and Theryl McCoy Knight.

Arbutus graduated from Williamsport High School in 1955 and married Merle V. Metcalf on August 20 1955. She was a proprietor of the Alphabet Flower & Gift Shop in Mercersburg and worked for Metcalfe’s Scrap Service. Arbutus enjoyed sewing, working on crafts, playing board games and cards with her friends and family. She liked spending her time cooking, looking for antiques, and attending auctions.

Arbutus is survived by her children, Robin W. Metcalfe, Terry P. (Tammy) Metcalfe, Lynn A. Metcalfe, Cindy E. (Andy) Horowitz, Brian L. (Lisa) Metcalfe, and Barry L. Metcalfe. She is survived by 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Beatrice Kline.

Arbutus is preceded in death by her husband, Merle V. Metcalfe (2014), a son, Anthony L. Metcalfe, 2 grandchildren, Garrett Metcalfe, Terry Preston Metcalfe Jr, and a sister, Mary Cross.

A visitation will be held 6-8 PM on Monday, December 16, 2019, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg, PA. A graveside service will be held 11 AM on Tuesday at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA with Mr. Dean Metcalfe Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
