Obituary for George D. Brant

George D. Brant, 84, formerly of Mt. Pleasant Road in Mercersburg, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 20, 2019.
Born September 18, 1935, in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Floyd D. and Edna B. Bishop Brant.
George attended Mercersburg High School and married Helen I. Summers in 1955. He worked most of his life as a plumber in the Harrisburg area as a lifetime member of the Local 520 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. In 1968, George was involved in the construction of Three Mile Island. He enjoyed hunting with his cousin Sherwin Hollinshead, and riding motorcycles with his wife and friends in the GWRRA PA chapter ā€˜Cā€™. He enjoyed taking trips to his cabin in Potter County with his friends and family. Later in his life, George helped rescue cats and supported the animal shelter.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen I. Brant, and a daughter Loretta B.Helman, son-in-law Duane A. Helman of Waynesboro. He is survived by grandchildren, Ashley Rae Helman, Cameron S. Helman, daughter-in-law(Lacey Lowe) Helman of Waynesboro, along with his two great grandchildren, Kinsley M. and Klara P. Helman. George is survived by his sister, Beulah Brant Beatty, two nieces, Angela Beatty Wiand, and Jenny Beatty Stoner and husband Karl Schreiber and child Mary Schrieber, and a great-niece, Heather Wiand (Shawn) Mellott, and their children Graham, Parker, and Cadence.
George is preceded in death by his in-laws, Hollis E. Beatty, Roy and Laura Summers.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
