Obituary

Richard W. Pine,73, formerly of Mercersburg, passed away at his home in Greencastle on Monday, January 7, 2019.
Born September 28, 1945, he was a son of Wayne F. Pine and the late Thelma M. Gordon Pine.
Richard graduated from James Buchanan High School in 1963. He worked at Grove Manufacturing for over 40 years until retiring as a test track supervisor. Richard worked part time for the past 5 years at Hoober’s in Chambersburg, even during the early stages of his battle with pancreatic cancer. He created many friendships and was very well respected by those for whom he worked and those with whom he worked.
Richard enjoyed working, hunting, fishing, and was an avid Nascar fan. He enjoyed barbequing with his brother, Merle, and French frying at the Mercersburg Sportsmen’s Ox Roast. Richard loved to spend time with his family and neighbors. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and friend.
Richard was a member of the Clayton’s Memorial Church of God, and the Mercersburg Sportsmen’s and Greencastle Sportsmen’s.
In addition to his father, Richard is survived by his wife of 28 years, L. Jane Pine, his son Richard A. (Marti) Pine of Mercersburg, and stepchildren: Jennifer Schaffer-Bream and husband Daniel of Greencastle, Annette (Ralph) Steinbarth of Chicago, and Michael Sr. (Shawna) Schaffer of Fannettsburg. Richard is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a brother, Merle (June) Pine of Mercersburg, and 3 nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2019 at Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg, with Pastor Marcus Abernethy officiating. There will be a viewing starting 2 hours before the service at Clayton Memorial Church of God. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made “In memory of Richard W. Pine” to Summit Cancer and Hematology Center 22 St. Paul’s Drive, Suite 100 Chambersburg , PA 17201.
